AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (11-7, 3-2 Big 12) reverse swept West Virginia (6-12, 0-6 Big 12) by set scores of 26-28, 14-25, 25-10, 25-20, 17-15 Wednesday night. It is the fourth time this season the Cyclones have come back from being down 0-2.
After entering the match tied for fifth in Iowa State history with 1,334 kills, Eleanor Holthaus broke the tie to hold the spot outright as she notched 10 on the night to now total 1,344. Holthaus brought in her fourth straight double-double as she defensively added 20 digs, the third time in her career to record 20.
Brooke Stonestreet dialed in the second-consecutive match with over 20 digs, her sixth 20-plus dig performance of the year. Stonestreet tallied 32, making for the first time in nearly three years for a Cyclone to notch at least 30. Michal Schuler was the last to hit the mark on Nov. 20, 2019.
The team collectively racked up 93 digs, the highest team total since the same match on Nov. 20, 2019 when ISU posted 94 at Texas Tech.
Solei Thomas notched the 900th kill of her career as she totaled 11 on the night to now hold 906.
Reigning Big 12 Rookie of the Week Maya Duckworth put up a match of 14 kills, 10 digs, three block assists, one solo block and an ace. It is the second double-double of her career.
SET ONE
Iowa State went off to a 7-1 run including aces by Holthaus and Stonestreet. Holthaus officially notched the fifth-most kills in school history to bring the score to 10-7. WVU tied things up at 10 as the advantage between either team kept within two the rest of the way. Iowa State powered through to make it to set point at 24-21 while West Virginia fought it off to tie at 24. The Mountaineers pulled away with the set 28-26 while both teams hit under .100.
SET TWO
WVU held the set lead while ISU struggled at the service line with nine service errors in the first two frames. West Virginia built a lead out to 17-10 on a kill by WVU's season kill leader Adrian Ell and pushed on to find 20 points first. West Virginia took the set by a score of 25-14 while finalizing a set hitting percentage of .135. Both sides totaled seven attack errors each in the frame.
SET THREE
Thomas fired off her fourth kill to put the Cyclones up first. Holthaus' second ace of the match came next while Kelsey Perry and Thomas put up the block to keep the Cyclones rolling. Thomas then notched kill No. 900 on her career while the Cyclones went on a run of 12 before WVU got on the board. The Cyclones continued to find their rhythm, hitting .636 to lead at 15-3 while holding WVU to a negative hitting efficiency. ISU went on to win the set 25-10, solidifying .522 hitting. Duckworth closed in on a double-double with nine kills and nine digs after the third.
SET FOUR
West Virginia went ahead to start the fourth with a lead of 9-4. The Cyclones then hit a run to come within one at 10-9. Another run of 3-0 gave ISU the lead at 12-11 on a block by Perry and Thomas. A long rally followed, capped with a setter kill by Morgan Brandt. A Duckworth ace brought ISU's lead to 19-14 and caused WVU to call a timeout. Duckworth solidified a double-double in the set as the Cyclones tied up the match with a score of 25-20 to force a fifth.
SET FIVE
WVU held the lead at 8-5 as the teams switched sides. ISU came back to lead at 9-8 while Stonestreet dialed in her 30th dig. Holthaus joined Stonestreet with a 20-plus dig performance of her own while a tie was seen at 12-12. ISU fought off match point and came back for the victory on a Holthaus kill by a score of 17-15.

Iowa State travels to meet Oklahoma on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. Next week, Iowa State returns home Wednesday, Oct. 19 to take on Texas at 6:30 p.m.
