AMES, Iowa - With just two tournaments left in its fall season, Iowa State will split its squad for the ITA Fall National Championships and the Big 12 Fall Invite.
After claiming the doubles title at the ITA Central Region Championships, senior Chie Kezuka and sophomore Ange Oby Kajuru will be making the trip to San Diego, Calif. to compete in the doubles tournament at the ITA Fall National Championships Thursday, Nov. 3 through Sunday, Nov. 6.Â
The rest of the team will be traveling to Stillwater, Okla. to represent Iowa State in the Big 12 Fall Invite Friday, Nov. 4 - Sunday, Nov. 6.Â
This weekend will conclude the Cyclones' Fall 2022 season and head coach Boomer Saia and his squad have had an impressive fall. Before the Fall 2021 season, the Cyclones never had an athlete qualify for the ITA Fall National Championships. This is now the second consecutive year in which Cyclone athletes will be competing in the tournament.Â
Kajuru and Kezuka qualified for the ITA Fall National Championships by making it to the championship round of the ITA Central Region Tournament. The duo then took down Anet Koskel and Zoey Weil from Minnesota, 6-3, 6-2, to claim the central region crown.Â
Kajuru (8-2)Â and Kezuka (11-3)Â have dominated in doubles action to date this fall including a 5-0 performance in the ITA Central Region tournament while competing together.
At the Big 12 Fall Invite, senior Christin Hsieh looks to build off of momentum built in her last outing. The senior from Taipei, Taiwan competed in her first tournament at the ITA Regionals and finished 5-1 in singles play over the five days. After losing her initial draw in the qualifying round, Hsieh went on to win her consolation bracket, defeating Rozalia Gruszczynska, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(7), in the consolation championship match.Â
Miska Kadleckova has had a solid start to her junior year season. Kadleckova has totaled a 13-7 record to date this fall, including a 3-0 record against ranked opponents. At the ITA All-American Championships, Kadleckova and Kajuru upset the nations No. 11 ranked doubles team, Miyuka Kimoto and Polina Kozyreva from Syracuse with a score of 7-6(1), 6-1. Kadleckova also currently leads her team in singles winning percentage with an impressive .736.
