AMES, Iowa – No. 25 Iowa State (17-7, 8-2 Big 12) swept Chicago State (6-14) by set scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-21. The Cyclones now hold eight-consecutive victories. The last time Iowa State put up a run of the length happened in the 2012 season.
Eleanor Holthaus recorded the 74th match of her career with double-digit kills to tie the fifth-most in program history. Holthaus led Iowa State with 12 kills and also led with three aces.
Cyclone servers sent over nine aces as Holthaus, Morgan Brandt, Jaden Newsome, Brooke Stonestreet and Kate Shannon contributed to the total.
SET ONE
Iowa State broke away at 3-3 to go on and hold the lead. The Cyclones recorded five aces in the frame, led by Holthaus with two. Holthaus also led with four kills, hitting at nearly .400. Chicago State fought off one set point, but Iowa State pulled ahead with the 1-0 match lead with a set score of 25-18.
SET TWO
The Cyclones led at 8-4, hitting .500. Chicago State inched toward Iowa State's lead and tied it up at 11-11 while outhitting ISU. Iowa State retook the score advantage, making it to 20 points while Chicago State held 16. The Cyclones pressed on to make it to set point at 24-19 while Chicago State battled back to make the score 24-23. ISU went on from there to seal the set on an Annie Hatch kill.
SET THREE
Iowa State began to build a lead, extending it to an advantage of nine on a Stonestreet ace at 17-8. Chicago State then came back from a nine-point deficit to bring the score to 24-17 as ISU still led. The Cougars sent over 16 kills in the third, nearly outhitting the Cyclones with .225 hitting compared to ISU's .229. Chicago State again fought off set point a total of five times as CSU's Yanlis Feliz collected her 13th kill, but Iowa State sealed the sweep by a score of 25-21.
