AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (18-9, 9-4 Big 12) won over Texas Tech (14-12, 3-10 Big 12) in four (25-21, 12-25, 26-24, 25-20) to complete the season sweep of the Red Raiders.
ISU sealed the victory despite the Red Raiders hitting .312, led by Ankeny, Iowa native Kenna Sauer with 19 kills. The Cyclones led with 59 kills as three tallied over 10.
Iowa State delivered 11 aces in the match for the third 10-plus ace match of the season. Three ties the highest season match total under Christy Johnson-Lynch.
Freshman Maya Duckworth went out to her fifth double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs. Annie Hatch was dominant again for the Cyclones as she also tallied 15 kills at .312. Eleanor Holthaus was the third in double figures as she notched 11 kills while also tying Allie Petry with the match high of three aces. Morgan Brandt put up a solid performance, ending one dig shy of a double-double with 26 assists and nine digs.
SET ONE
TTU held the lead until a Duckworth ace tied it at 5-5. Hatch hit her third kill at .500 hitting to again knot things up at 9. A run of four that featured three ISU kills put the Cyclones up 14-11. Another run took Iowa State to 20 points while Texas Tech held 17. Four Cyclones each sent over four kills as ISU took the set 25-21.
SET TWO
The Red Raiders went up 7-3 before Duckworth hit her sixth kill at .600 to halt a 5-0 TTU run. Texas Tech found efficiency in hitting at over .600 with zero attack errors to go ahead 22-10. Duckworth then matched Thomas with seven kills. The Red Raiders continued to outhit the Cyclones .630-.222 to take the set 25-12.
SET THREE
Hatch put the Cyclones up 9-8 with three-straight kills and again found the floor for her 11th kill of the match as ISU came within one at 11-10. Petry subbed into the libero spot in the second set and went on to deliver two aces as the Cyclones pulled ahead 15-13. Holthaus then totaled the sixth Iowa State ace for the lead at 22-21 as ISU made it to set point on Duckworth's 13th kill. The set was extended with the Cyclones taking it 26-24 while Duckworth and Hatch each totaled 14 kills.
SET FOUR
Holthaus rattled off two aces to begin the frame while ISU pressed on to lead 9-2. The run featured two kills and a solo block by Alexis Engelbrecht. Duckworth then totaled the 10th Cyclone ace of the day to put ISU up 11-4. Engelbrecht came alive in the set with her seventh kill of the match to make it 18-9. TTU came back to inch toward the lead, but Iowa State never let it slip away as the match was clinched on a set score of 25-20.
NEXT UP
Iowa State has two road matches up next, first meeting the Top-10 ranked Baylor Bears in Waco Wednesday, Nov. 16. The Cyclones then head to Lawrence for a Saturday match vs. Kansas. Iowa State returns home Wednesday, Nov. 23 for the final regular season match to host Oklahoma.
