AMES, Iowa - Iowa State senior center Beatriz Jordão announced that she will medically retire from basketball on Thursday. Jordão, a fifth-year senior in her second season at Iowa State after spending her first three seasons at South Florida, made the decision and announcement after battling chronic injuries and issues in her lower leg. Jordão will continue to be around the team, sitting on the bench at games and travelling to away contests.
Below you can see the text of the statement Jordão posted to social media, and a statement from head coach Bill Fennelly.

Beatriz Jordão Statement
It's been a hell of a ride! But unfortunately, this ride has a difficult end.
I have been through a lot the last few years, dealing with a chronic injury. The truth is, I have never fully recovered. I have fought a lot to be able to play the game that I love. However, it has taken a lot from me. As much as I love basketball, it is time for me to look out for my health and well-being.
With that being said, I will be medically retiring from basketball.
I want to thank all of my teammates, coaches, friends and family for their support throughout these years. We have made so many good memories that I will never forget, and created friendships that will last a lifetime.
Thank you to the Iowa State Sports Medicine staff, especially Meaghan Clark and Mercedes Zapien, for helping me get back on the court as much as I did, and for getting me through the difficult days when I was not the easiest to work with.
Lastly, I want to give a special thanks to Coach Fennelly for allowing me to be with the team and for letting me contribute what I can, even if it will be in a different manner.
I love my team, I love Iowa State, I love Ames and I love basketball.
Thank you!

Bill Fennelly Statement
"Bea has made the difficult decision to end her basketball career. She and our medical staff did all they could to get her back on the court, but it was obvious in the interest of Bea's long-term health that she does not attempt to play anymore. Bea has been a huge part of the Cyclone Women's Basketball family, and that will not change, as she has always been a team-first person."
