GAINSEVILLE, Fla. – No. 6-seed Iowa State (20-12, 10-6 Big 12) fell to No. 3-seed and 12th-ranked Florida (25-5, 15-3 SEC) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Eleanor Holthaus went out to her second-straight double-double in her final match as a Cyclone. Holthaus led all players with 13 kills while adding 10 digs. Alexis Engelbrecht had four kills at .308 and three blocks on the night.
The Cyclones were held to .110 while the Gators hit .279. Florida led with 64 digs, 43 kills, nine blocks and seven aces.
SET ONE
Florida began with the lead of 8-3 after taking four-straight. The Cyclones battled back to bring the score to 20-15 on Solei Thomas' fourth kill. Thomas remained hot hitting two more in the set at .500 hitting to make the score 23-17. Maya Duckworth hit two kills to follow and keep ISU in it, but the Gators took the set 25-19 while hitting .357.
SET TWO
Iowa State flipped the momentum, taking a 5-1 lead to begin as Thomas continued bringing in kills and Morgan Brandt served up an ace. The Cyclones remained ahead while Holthaus denied Florida with a solo block to put the score at 10-6. Iowa State won a challenge of a touch to reverse the score from 10-10 to 11-9. Holthaus then found the floor as she converted a dig to a kill with the Cyclones holding the 18-14 advantage. The teams found the first tie at 19 and continued to match each other before Florida found the lead and took the second set 25-23.
SET THREE
The Gators served three aces to lead 5-2 and pressed on to hold the lead of 13-6 hitting over .400. With the scoreboard at 17-7, Alexis Engelbrecht totaled three blocks to bring three of the match's next four points to the Cyclones. The Gators stretched their advantage to as much as 10 as they went on to take the match by a set score of 25-14.
