BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Wesley Kiptoo picked up a second Second Team All-America honor in as many days at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, finishing 13th in the 3,000-meter run on Saturday in the Birmingham CrossPlex. Kiptoo picked up his seventh All-America nod as a Cyclone with his run of 8:05.53.
Iowa State's sixth place finish in the men's DMR last night gave ISU three team points and a final spot in the team standings of T-47.
After going out at a blistering pace, only to fade, in yesterday's 5,000-meter run, it was a more measured approach from Kiptoo today, as he ran with the field, bouncing anywhere from fifth to 14th across the first half of the race. However, he was unable to find a way to move up the pack as the speed of the race picked up, eventually settling for the 13th place finish.
Kiptoo now has seven All-America honors in his Iowa State career, this being his fourth Second Team All-America honor in track and field. This is the first time he has earned All-America honors in the indoor 3,000m run.
