AUBURN, Ala. – Iowa State (10-13, 1-1 Big 12) posted its highest regional score in program history, a 196.725, Thursday night inside Neville Arena but ultimately saw its season come to an end in the Second Round of NCAA Regionals. The Cyclones placed fourth in session two of the Auburn regional behind Florida (198.125), Denver (197.075), and Ohio State (196.925).
"The amount of growth we have seen as a team in just the past two weeks is astounding," head coach Jay Ronayne said. "I'm over the moon with the fight this team has shown. This will be a memory that is seared in my mind for the rest of my life. It says a lot about this specific group that they were able to fight and to focus and get the job done. I couldn't be prouder."
Iowa State saw strong performances on floor from both Maddie Diab and Ariana Orrego. Diab earned a 9.925 for the second day in a row, marking her fourth straight score above a 9.900 while Orrego earned a new career high as she scored a 9.900.
The Cyclones surprised on bars, where they earned their highest event score of the season thanks to Makayla Maxwell and Loganne Basuel. The pair notched matching scores of 9.875, with Maxwell's being a career high and Basuel's tying her season high.
Freshman Josie Bergstrom was once again strong on vault, as she tied her career-best 9.900, set yesterday in the First Round.
"The way Josie was able to hit 9.900s on back-to-back days, as a freshman, is incredible," Ronayne said. "She was able to pop out two awesome vaults when it counted, and I can't wait to watch her continue to grow.
Bars
Iowa State notched a season-high score of 49.275 on bars. Maxwell earned a new career high, scoring a 9.875 along with Basuel. Laura Cooke and Ana Palacios scored matching 9.850s while Hannah Loyim finished the scoring for the Cyclones with a 9.825.
Floor
The Cyclones posted a 49.200 on floor, led once again by Diab who scored a 9.925 for the second night in a row. Orrego followed close behind with her career-high 9.900. Kaia Parker also posted a new career best, scoring a 9.850. Kelsey Boychuk and Laura Cooke closed out the scoring with scores of 9.775 and 9.750, respectively.
Vault
Iowa State earned a score of 49.100 on vault, led by Bergstrom's second consecutive 9.900, tying her career high. Boychuk and Maxwell followed close behind with matching scores of 9.850. Orrego tied her career high with a 9.800 while Loyim earned a 9.700 to round out the scoring.
Beam
The Cyclones scored a total of 49.150 on beam to open the meet. Meixi Semple led the team with a 9.875. Basuel tied her career high as she scored a 9.850 along with Boychuk. Bergstrom earned a 9.800 and Sophia Steinmeyer posted a 9.775 to close out the scoring.
All-Around
Hannah Loyim was the lone all-arounder for the Cyclones, earning a score of 37.675.
