ISU Sees Record Crowd for Cy-Hawk Series

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State gymnastics team (8-5, 1-1 Big 12) fell to the No. 19 Iowa Hawkeyes 196.500-196.825 Friday night inside Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones saw a record crowd, with 3,889 fans in attendance to make the meet the highest gymnastics-only attendance in school history.
Iowa State had a season high floor score, with two scores of 9.900 or above on the event for the third time this season. Freshman Hannah Loyim earned a career high 9.925 on the event. Andrea Maldonado also had another strong performance, earning a 9.900 to follow up her career high 9.975 last week. Andrea Maldonado earned a new career high as well, scoring a 9.875. Makayla Maxwell continued her domination on vault, earning a 9.900 for her fourth score of that or better this season.
Floor
The Cyclones earned a season high floor score for the second week in a row, scoring a 49.425. Hannah Loyim led the team, earning a career high 9.925. Andrea Maldonado followed close behind with a 9.900. Alondra Maldonado and Maddie Diab each earned scores of 9.875, with Maldonado's being a new career high. Ariana Orrego finished out the scoring with a new season high of 9.850.
Vault
Iowa State started off the meet with a 49.250 on vault, led by a 9.900 from Makayla Maxwell. Josie Bergstrom and Emilie Hong followed with a 9.850 each. Kaia Parker led off the event in a big way, tying her career high with a 9.825. Sophia Steinmeyer, in her season debut on the event, and Kelsey Boychuk also posted a 9.825
Beam
The Cyclones scored a total score of 49.075 on beam. Josie Bergstrom led the team on the event, scoring a 9.850 to tie her career high. Sophia Steinmeyer and Alondra Maldonado earned matching scores of 9.825, with Steinmeyer's being a season high and Maldonado's a career high. Meixi Semple and Hannah Loyim rounded out the scores with a 9.800 and a 9.775, respectively.
Bars
The Cyclones posted a score of 48.750 on bars, led by a 9.800 from Ariana Orrego. Ariana Orrego led the team and won the event with a 9.800. Ana Palacios and Laura Cooke both earned scores of 9.750, and Hannah Loyim and Laura Cooke both scored matching 9.725s.

The Cyclones are back on the road for their final regular season meet. They will be at Missouri for a quad meet where they will also take on Illinois and Lindenwood. The meet is set for next Saturday, Mar. 12 at 5:00 p.m.
