AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (21-20, 2-6 Big 12) was unable to replicate Thursday's comeback as the Cyclones fell, 11-1, in five innings to Texas Tech (20-20, 3-8 Big 12) Friday evening at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
ISU managed only two hits in the loss, one each from Mikayla Ramos and Camille Marin. Ramos logged her third double of the series while Kasey Simpson drove in Iowa State's lone run with a sac-fly in the second inning.
Karlie Charles (7-5) was given the starting nod in the circle but ran into trouble early and was replaced by Saya Swain in the first inning.
Texas Tech jumped on the Cyclones right away with a solo homer in the first at-bat of the game, sparking a six-run opening frame for the Red Raiders. After Iowa State crossed one run in the second, Tech responded with a three-run fourth and a two-run fifth to put the game out of reach for good.
