AMES, Iowa – Ashley Joens and the USA Basketball Women's 3x3 National Team were not able to make it to the medal round on Saturday at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup in Antwerp, Belgium, falling to Canada 14-10 in the Quarterfinals.
It was a disappointing finish for the two-time defending 3x3 World Cup champs and the Gold Medal winners at the 2020 Olympic Games, as Team USA was coming off a 2-0 day on Friday via an 18-14 win over Brazil and a come-from-behind 20-18 overtime victory over France.
Joens had two points against the French, helping key a comeback from 16-9 down in the contest. In the early game against Brazil, Joens had one point.
On Wednesday, Joens and Team USA got off to a 2-0 start to the tournament. The Americans began the day with a 19-14 win over New Zealand, before Joens led Team USA to an 18-16 comeback victory over Austria.
Individually, Joens had one point in the win over the Tall Ferns (New Zealand), while being the USA's joint leading scorer against Austria with six points, including a pair of two-pointers (the 3x3 games equivalent of a 3-pointer).
