01.23.2023 | Track and Field, Cyclone Club
AMES, Iowa - Darius Kipyego has been named the Cyclone Club Student-Athlete of the Week after recording a career best time in the 800-meter run at the Cyclone Open over the weekend.
Kipyego's time of 1:47.66 was enough to fend off teammate Peter Smith in the finals of the 800-meter run and secure first place in the event. His personal-best time has also garnered him national attention as his time is currently the fastest time in the Big 12 and third-fastest in the nation this season.
The Rhode Island native has been on a hot streak, writing his name into the ISU indoor track and field performance list twice this season. Kipyego moves into fourth all-time after debuting at sixth at the ISU Holiday Invite with a time of 1:48.09 in December.
Iowa State will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas for the Razorback Invitation on Jan. 27.
About the Cyclone Club

Annual Cyclone Club gifts provide ISU student-athletes the opportunity to compete in their sport at the highest level, while preparing them to utilize their Iowa State degree once their athletic careers have concluded. Iowa State Athletics does not receive any State or University funding to operate, thereby making it one of the nation's only financially self-sufficient athletic programs.
