HONOLULU, Hawai'i – The Iowa State tennis team opens its spring season at the Weinman Foundation Invitational, hosted by the University of Hawai'i. Matches will begin Thursday, Jan. 5 and go through Saturday, Jan. 7 and will take place at the UH Tennis Complex in Honolulu, Hawai'i starting at 1 p.m. (CT) each day.
The tournament features three ranked teams, including the 22nd-ranked Cyclones. The other ranked squads are Pac 12 powers No. 12 California and No. 14 Southern California. All three ranked programs also qualified for the 2022 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships last May, while Washington State and Hawai'i are the other two teams set to compete. All five teams finished last season ranked inside the Top 70.
The Cyclones will play matches against Southern California Thursday, Washington State on Friday and Hawaii on Saturday, though the results don't count as dual contests.
Entering this weekend with 89 career wins, Miska Kadleckova is just one victory away from entering the program's top-20 all-time career wins. She would be the third member of this year's team to do so as Thasaporn Naklo (115) sits at the No. 9 spot and Chie Kezuka (103) at the No. 13 spot.
Preseason rankings were released earlier Wednesday. In addition to being ranked No. 22 in the ITA Preseason Poll, ISU was picked fourth in the Big 12 Preseason Poll. Click here to read the complete story.
