AMES, Iowa – No. 25 Iowa State (13-3, 4-1 Big 12) fell to Kansas State (9-6, 3-3 Big 12) in three sets Wednesday night by set scores of 20-25, 16-25, 18-25. It was the Cyclones' first road loss of the season.
ISU struggled hitting efficiently through the night totaling 23 attack errors and getting outhit by the home team .248-.110.
Maya Duckworth had her ninth double-figure kill match of the season with 12 kills while Lilly Wachholz had her fifth with 10. Morgan Brandt went out to her ninth double-double of the season totaling 26 assists and 10 digs to go along with three blocks and a kill.
SET ONE
Duckworth had kill No. 1 on the night, while the Wildcats and Cyclones kept close early in the set. Duckworth then hit two-straight as ISU went on a run of three to put ISU up 10-6. Iowa State remained ahead 15-11 as Wachholz then put down her fourth kill on five swings. With ISU up 19-16, K-State rallied back to take a lead at 20-19. KSU would follow to take the first set 25-20, while ISU totaled eight attack and four service errors.
SET TWO
Iowa State went up 5-0 with Wachholz slamming down her seventh kill. K-State came back to lead 6-5, while the sides continued to tie each other up until KSU took a lead of four (13-9). The Cyclones fought back to knot the score at 13s, but Kansas State went on to find 20 points as ISU held 14. KSU went up 2-0 in the match, outhitting ISU .242-.107.
SET THREE
A Duckworth kill and a Brooke Stonestreet ace started off the set, but KSU followed to take the advantage of 8-5 to cause an ISU timeout. With K-State hitting at .533 in the set, the home team hit another scoring run, going up 14-7. KSU would hold on to the lead from there to take the victory.
