AMES, Iowa – Men's basketball's Tamin Lipsey and wrestling's Yonger Bastida share this week's Cyclone Club Athlete of the Week honors after delivering remarkable performances over the weekend.
Lipsey led Iowa State to a 99-80 road victory over DePaul by recording the seventh triple-double in ISU history. The Ames native tallied 15 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against the Blue Demons.
Lipsey is the first Cyclone since Tyrese Haliburton in 2020 to record a triple-double, and he joined the likes of Monté Morris, Royce White, Jamaal Tinsley, Curtis Stinson and Marc Urquhart as members of the illustrious club.
The sophomore guard played 35 minutes in the win and added four steals to his stat line.
On the wrestling mat, Bastida was dominant en route to winning Iowa State's first individual Cliff Keen Invitational title since 2014. In his first real test since moving to heavyweight, Bastida went 5-0 with four bonus-point wins and defeated three top-20 opponents.
Bastida outscored his opponents 68-21 and did not surrender a takedown or offensive point against him the entire tournament.
The Cuba native earned a tech fall against Navy's No. 10 Grady Griess in 4:25 in the semifinals. In the finals against Michigan's No. 3 Lucas Davison, Bastida secured a reversal and takedown in the third period, the later coming with nine seconds remaining in the match, to get the win and secure the CKLV title.
About the Cyclone Club
The Cyclone Club spearheads the fundraising efforts for the Iowa State Athletic department and gifts of all sizes directly impact the lives of over 450 student-athletes at Iowa State. Annual Cyclone Club gifts provide ISU student-athletes the opportunity to compete in their sport at the highest level, while preparing them to utilize their Iowa State degree once their athletic careers have concluded. Iowa State Athletics does not receive any State or University funding to operate, thereby making it one of the nation's only financially self-sufficient athletic programs.
