FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The women's 4x400-meter relay squad took down a 10-year old school record while the trio of Jason Gómez, Cebastian Gentil and Darius Kipyego marked the day rewriting the Iowa State 800-meter run performance list with top-four program times to close out the final day.
The squad of Zakiyah Amos, Kaylyn Hall, Rachel Joseph and Bria Barnes combined for a time of 3:38.90, the first ISU team to post an indoor time under 3:39. The previous record of 3:39.07 was set in 2013 at Big 12 Championships. Joseph, who downed the 400-meter dash school record for the second time yesterday, posted a third-leg split of 52.43.
Gómez led the Cyclones to a second-place finish in the 800-meter run invitational with 1:46.53, taking down his 2021 personal record of 1:47.02 to now stand .55 seconds off the school record. The time currently ranks third in the Big 12 and fourth fourth in the nation this season.
Gentil clocked another sub-1:47 time with 1:46.75 for third in the event while moving up to No. 3 in ISU history and currently ranking at No. 6 in the nation. Kipyego also downed his personal best for the second time this season with 1:47.38 for fifth place. Kipyego moves up to No. 4 in school history and currently ranks as the 11th-fastest runner in the nation.
In the 200-meter dash, freshman Mikey McClain made another amend to the record books with his debut at No. 7 in the program ranks with 21.58. McClain notched 29th place with the time.
At the Husky Classic, Nehemia Too posted his fourth sub-four minute mile of the season with 3:57.80 to take second in a field of over 100 runners. Peter Smith came close to an under four minute mile and neared his PR with 4:02.58. Freshman Emanuel Galdino cut four seconds off his best time with 4:04.47.
