The Lead: Iowa State is set to face its 14th AP Top 25 team on Friday night, as the Cyclones are set to play No. 3 Kansas in the 2023 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship Semifinals. This will be the seventh Big 12 Tourney meeting with the Jayhawks.

Storylines:

Four Cyclones were honored by the Big 12 coaches this week. Gabe Kalscheur earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors and was also named to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team. Jaren Holmes was named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention, while also earning a spot on the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team. Osun Osunniyi also earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors. Tamin Lipsey picked up a spot on the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.
The Cyclones lead the country in wins over Associated Press Top 25 and AP Top 10 teams this season. ISU has nine AP Top 25 victories and six AP Top 10 victories.
Gabe Kalscheur has played 56 games in his career against ranked opponents, the most by any player in the country. He holds a 26-30 record in those games, the third-most wins in the nation.
Iowa State held all but one (Texas Tech-Overtime) Big 12 opponent below its season scoring average. That total includes holding No. 8 Kansas to 53 points, the lowest conference total under Bill Self. The Cyclones are holding their opponents to a league-best 62.5 points per game this season.

From the Notes: Tamin Lipsey is averaging 7.5 points, 4.6 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 2.42 turnovers per game. He is one of three players in the country averaging those numbers this season and just the 11th in the last 10 years to do so.

KU has won 16 postseason league tourney titles and 12 in the Big 12 era. KU (12), ISU (5), OU (3) and OSU (2) are active league members with Big 12 tournament titles. West Virginia has won 13 conference tournament titles.
Kansas leads the overall series with Iowa State, 189-67, including a 6-6 record in postseason conference tournaments, 3-3 in the Big 12 era.
Kansas won its 21st Big 12 and NCAA-leading 64th all-time conference regular-season title in 2023, the 17th under Bill Self.
Last season, Kansas became the all-time winningest program in NCAA Division I, currently at 2,383 victories.
