The Iowa State Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 1997 and directed by the Iowa State Letterwinners Club.

Former Iowa State Athletics Director Gene Smith made the development of a Hall of Fame for Cyclone student-athletes a high priority when he arrived in 1993, and since its inception, the Hall of Fame banquet has evolved into one of the marquee events the department hosts annually.

More than 200 former student-athletes, coaches and administrators have been bestowed the highest honor by the Iowa State Athletics Department via a selection committee comprised of Iowa State administrators and athletic alumni.
