AMES, Iowa - Iowa State opened its 2023 soccer campaign on Thursday, August 17, defeating Arizona by a score of 2-1. Cyclone head coach Matt Fannon spoke afterwards, praising the team's resiliency. Photos from the match are included below and come from Jeff Spaur, Luke Lu and Wesley Winterink.

The Cyclones earned their first goal of the 2023 campaign at about the midway point of the first half as Salomé Prat buried a ball in the back left corner of the net off a Mira Emma feed which just cleared the Arizona backline. The game-winning goal came from Arkansas State transfer Abigail Miller who capitalized off an Alex Campana feed to give Iowa State the advantage.
