Kipyego Named Cyclone Club Athlete of the Week

AMES, Iowa - Darius Kipyego has been named the Cyclone Club Athlete of the week after a historic performance Friday at the Cyclone Open.
The junior set the Iowa State 1,000-meter record with a time of 2:18.53, topping Jason Gómez's record of 2:19.11 set in 2021.
Kipyego's mark was also the fourth-fastest all-conditions time in collegiate history and fastest on a 300m track.
Iowa State track & field is back in action Jan. 26-27 at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
About the Cyclone Club
The Cyclone Club spearheads the fundraising efforts for the Iowa State Athletic department and gifts of all sizes directly impact the lives of over 450 student-athletes at Iowa State. Annual Cyclone Club gifts provide ISU student-athletes the opportunity to compete in their sport at the highest level, while preparing them to utilize their Iowa State degree once their athletic careers have concluded. Iowa State Athletics does not receive any State or University funding to operate, thereby making it one of the nation's only financially self-sufficient athletic programs.
