Last Meeting: 1/20/1973 (ISU 35, NAVY 5)
Iowa State and Navy meet on the wrestling mat for just the fourth time in history and the first time since Jan. 20, 1973. In that 1973 dual, the No. 1 ranked Cyclones topped the Midshipmen, 35-5, in Annapolis, winning eight of 10 matches. Three future Iowa State Athletics Hall of Fame members wrestled in the dual for the Cyclones - Rich Binek (2024), Al Nacin (2008) and Chris Taylor (1999).
Former Iowa State wrestler and ISU Athletics Hall of Famer Reg Wicks was a long-time head coach at Navy (1988-2000), leading the Midshipmen to a 173-60-5 record during his tenure. He mentored six All-Americans and 16 EIWA conference champions at Navy.
As a Cyclone wrestler, Wicks won a national title at 160 pounds in 1968.
Reg passed away earlier this year at the age of 79. Several of his family and friends are expected to be in attendance at Friday's dual.
BOCKMAN ADJUSTING TO 184
After wrestling the last three seasons at 197 pounds for Utah Valley, Evan Bockman made the move to 184 pounds for his final season of eligibility.
Bockman looked solid in his first match of the season against Stanford's No. 27 Luke Duthie. The Cyclone tallied three takedowns in the final 0:45 to earn a 15-7 major decision.
The Alaska native talked this week about his lifestyle changes and how he's adjusting to life at 184 pounds.
Evan Bockman is feeling good down at 184 pounds after three seasons at 197 💪

CARROLL: BIG 12 WRESTLER OF THE WEEK
Christian Carroll, in his collegiate dual debut, earned a top-15 win over Stanford's No. 13 Nick Stemmet on Friday. He was named the Big 12's Wrestler of the Week for his efforts.
The redshirt freshman exploded for two takedowns in the opening minute of the match to set an early tone, and added a reversal and a third takedown in the second period, to secure a comfortable 11-7 decision over Stemmet.
