FOUR THINGS
2 – Iowa State had two players named to the Naismith Trophy Women's College Player of the Year Watchlist earlier this week. Audi Crooks and Emily Ryan were two of 50 women's collegiate basketball players selected to the watchlist. It is the second time Ryan has been featured on the top 50 list and the first time Crooks has been added.
8 – Iowa State ranks eight nationally with 22.0 assists per game. This season, Iowa State has passed out 25 assists in a game twice, in the season opener against Chicago State (Nov. 4) and last Thursday against St. Thomas. The Cyclones assisted on 25 of 31 field goals against the Tommies.
30 – Head coach Bill Fennelly is in his 30th season at the helm for Iowa State. Fennelly is tied with Tom Izzo (Michigan State, men's basketball) as the longest tenured Power 4 basketball coach. Fennelly is also Iowa State's all-time winningest coach with 615 wins as head coach of the Cyclones.
931 – The Cyclones have made at least one 3-point field goal in an NCAA women's record 931 consecutive games, a streak which encapsulates the entirety of the Bill Fennelly Era at Iowa State.
LAST TIME OUT
Iowa State handed St. Thomas its first loss of the season by a final score of 80-47 last Thursday night. Through four contests, Iowa State has not allowed an opponent to score 60 points in a game. Emily Ryan dished out 13 assists, the top single-game mark in NCAA DI women's basketball this season. Also tying the 11th highest single-game assists mark with her total, Ryan now holds seven of the top 21 game totals at Iowa State.
ISU shot over 56 percent from the floor and over 46 percent from 3-point range, led by Audi Crooks who went 12-of-17 for 26 points. Sydney Harris (13) and Addy Brown (10) also finished in double figures.
CROOKS COOKS
Iowa State freshman Audi Crooks has garnered national attention as one of the nation's most exciting post players. Crooks has scored in double figures in 35-straight games and finished with 20+ points 18 times in her career. The 6-3 center scored a season-high 26 points on 12-of-17 shooting from the floor while pulling down a team-high eight rebounds.
She played an efficient game against Chicago State for ISU's season opener, scoring 16 points in 18 minutes of play. The Algona, Iowa native has improved her free throw shooting in the off season. She has connected on 75 percent of her attempts this season, improving from 65.5 percent of her trips to the line last season.
Crooks was one of the top players in NCAA Division I for field goal percentage last season, shooting nearly 58 percent from the floor. Crooks also reached 100 field goals made with 10 against Baylor (Jan. 13, 2024). She holds the best mark regardless of class in ISU history with 258 makes.
She broke the Iowa State freshman record for made field goals in a season at Texas (Feb. 17). Crooks broke the single-season record regardless of class against Maryland (Mar. 22).
EMILY RYAN DISH-TRIBUTION CENTER
Emily Ryan is one of Iowa State's most prolific point guards, recording top 10 career marks in assists, steals and blocks while becoming the program's 34th 1,000 point scorer in March 2023. The Claflin, Kansas native has recorded 818 assists and holds the all-time best mark in program history. She is the active NCAA women's basketball leader for assists with her career total, trailed by Kentucky's Georgia Amoore with 690 dimes.
The 5-11 guard has recorded a career assist/turnover ration of 1.99. Over 123 games, she has tallied single-game assists at every mark, 1-17 and has never finished a game with less than one assist. Ryan is 15 assists from entering the NCAA Division I all-time Top 30 and 121 dimes from the all-time Top 10.
