AMES, Iowa – Iowa State's Morgan Furmaniak, Avery Gillahan, Lauren Hernandez, Magdalena Keck, Leia Khairy and Yira Yoggerst earned Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators (CSC), the organization announced.
It marks the third consecutive season that Iowa State has landed six athletes, the maximum allowed, on the All-District Team. All six recipients were first-time honorees for the Cyclones.
Furmaniak, a senior transfer from Weber State, made the most of her one season in Ames, as the Plainfield, Ill., native recorded a team-best four goals. She led the team in shots and started all but one match during her lone year in Ames. Furmaniak will graduate later this year with a degree in marketing.
Gillahan strung together another solid season in the net for the Cyclones, increasing her numbers across the board. Avery fell just four saves shy of the century mark, finishing with 96 on the season. She collected five total clean sheets and recorded a career-best 12 saves against Iowa. She earned Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week on October 9.
Hernandez enjoyed a successful junior season, where she was one of just two Cyclones to start all 18 matches on the year, playing the most minutes of any field player. Lauren finished the year with one goal, which she tallied in the season finale against Baylor, and recorded her fifth career assist against UNI early in the year.
Keck saw her hard work pay off in 2024, as the redshirt junior had to miss last year with an injury. In her return to the pitch, Keck led the team in points with nine, pairing three goals with three assists. Magdalena was the only Cyclone this season to record a multi-assist game, and she tallied one game-winning goal against Western Illinois.
Khairy wrapped up her Cyclone career by appearing in 17 matches this season. A spark off the bench, Keck took six shots and played 448 minutes of action. A five-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient and 2023 Academic All-Big 12 First Team member, Leia is set to graduate later this year with a degree in genetics.
Yoggerst, like Furmaniak, transferred in from Weber State to spend her final year in Ames. Yoggerst collected a pair of assists, dishing her first to Furmaniak in the two's first game as Cyclones. Yira had a personal best three shots against K-State and started all but one outing during her Iowa State tenure.
The 2024 Academic All-District Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
