Cyclones Unbeaten in Singles At Rice; Kuearum Falls in Round of 16

Ames, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team went unbeaten in singles on day one of the Rice Invitational in Houston on Friday, while Anna Supapitch Kuearum fell in the round of 16 in the ITA Sectional Championships.
In the Rice Invite singles, Ashlee Narker downed Baylor's Nanaka Soto, 6-2, 6-1, in flight one. In flight two, Cristina Ramos Sierra defeated Rice's Maria Martinez in a three-setter, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5).
In flight three, Mari Paz Alberto Vilar bested Rice's Saara Orav, 6-3, 6-3. Gabriela Felix took down Mariia Bakhtina from UT Rio Grande Valley, 6-2, 7-6 (4).
At the ITA Sectional Championships, Kuearum was beaten by Michigan's Lily Jones, 6-4, 6-1.
