Iowa State rounds out Week 1 of game action on Sunday, hosting Southern for a Sunday matinee. The eighth-ranked Cyclones picked up wins over Chicago State and Indiana State in Hilton Coliseum earlier this week to move the home game win streak to five in a row.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Overall: ISU leads 5-0
In Ames: ISU leads 5-0
Fennelly vs. SU: 5-0
FOUR THINGS
2 – Iowa State had two players named to the Naismith Trophy Women's College Player of the Year Watch List earlier this week. Audi Crooks and Emily Ryan were two of 50 women's collegiate basketball players selected to the watch list. It is the second time Ryan has been featured on the top 50 list and the first time Crooks has been added.
23 – Through the first four days of college basketball action, Big 12 women's basketball teams are 23-1 (.958) for the highest winning percentage in any conference for women's hoops.
30 – Iowa State has held both of its opponents this season to game field goal percentages under 30 percent. The Cyclones field goal percentage defense (27.6 percent) ranks 36th in the country and third in the Big 12
929 – The Cyclones have made at least one 3-point field goal in an NCAA women's record 929 consecutive games, a streak which encapsulates the entirety of the Bill Fennelly Era at Iowa State.
LAST TIME OUT
Iowa State moved to 2-0 on the young season with a 64-42 win over Indiana State. The Cyclones faced a much slower start than their season opener and trailed the Sycamores, 16-14, after one quarter. Despite shooting under 30 percent from the floor, the Cyclone defense forced 22 turnovers and held Indiana State's field goal percentage to 25.4 percent (15-59).
Audi Crooks led ISU with 16 points and tallied eight rebounds and three blocks. Addy Brown recorded her 11th career double-double and first of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Arianna Jackson nabbed three steals and connected on two 3-pointers.
HILTON MAGIC
The Cyclones have been phenomenal at home during Bill Fennelly's tenure, compiling a 383-82 record (.824) in Hilton Coliseum, including a 188-9 (.954) mark against regular-season non-conference opponents. Iowa State has gone undefeated at home three times, most recently during the 2004-05 season.
The Cyclones finished the 2023-24 regular season 13-2 at home and 7-1 in Big 12 play. Iowa State's 16 wins at Hilton Coliseum in 2021-22 was tied for the third-most in a season in school history.
ISU's 5-0 non-con home record in 2022- 23 marked the 22nd time Iowa State has gone undefeated at home in regular season non-conference contests under head coach Bill Fennelly.
