MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - The Iowa State swimming and diving team (3-6, 0-3 Big 12) competed in a variety of events to kick off the 2024 Big 12 Championships.Â
TIME TRIALS
Â
Sydney Jackson finished the 200 breaststroke time trial with a time of 2:15.48, the 15th fastest time in Iowa State history. The time also secured the seventh spot on the all-time top performers list for Jackson.Â
Freshman Abbi Crum (1:05.20) and Maddy Rundell (1:05.34) finished the 100 breaststroke time trials with personal best times.Â
RELAYSÂ
The 800 free relay saw two new entries into the all-time top performers list. A team of Fallon DeWitt, Brinley Horras, Corinne Guist, and Ashley Bengtson had a final time of 7:20.79, the eighth fastest 800 free relay time in program history.Â
DeWitt was the first on the blocks for the team and earned a personal best time of 1:50.01 with her 200 free relay split. The time earned her the No. 13 spot on the all-time top performers list in the 200 free.Â
500 FreeÂ
In the preliminary round, seniors Horras (4:54.24) and Jackson (4:56.03) led the way for the Cyclones with top 16 times that placed them in the consolation finals of the 500 free. Guist (4:57.21) followed close behind with a sub-five minute time that earned her a spot in the bonus finals.Â
Horras led all Cyclones in the finals with an 11th place finish overall at a final time of 4:52.45. Horras' finish moved her into the top 20 of all-time points leaders at the Big 12 Championships in Iowa State history. She now holds the No. 13 spot at 105 career points with multiple events left to go at the 2024 championships to go even higher on the leaderboard.Â
200 IMÂ
Junior Fallon DeWitt (2:04.17) and freshman Emma Kuhn (2:04.28) earned top 20 finishes in the 200 IM prelims that led to spots in the bonus finals. Crum also had her season best time of 2:07.13 during the preliminary round.Â
In the finals, Kuhn finished with a final time of 2:02.10 in the bonus finals, the second fastest time in program history by a freshman. She also holds the No. 8 spot on the all-time top performers list in the event.Â
Fallon DeWitt finished with a personal best time of 2:03.47, strong enough to secure the No. 12 spot on the all-time top performers list.

50 FreeÂ
The preliminary round of the 50 free saw two new personal bests set by Iowa State swimmers. Carley Caughron finished with a time of 23.07, which tied her for the No. 6 spot in the all-time top performers list at the event.
Maddie Ziegert also set a new best of 23.46 in the early round while freshman Lydia McClugage had a season best time of 23.75.Â
Caughron had a dominant finals performance winning the consolation finals with a time of 22.85. Caughron also secured the No. 3 spot on the all-time top performers list for the event and the 11th fastest 50 free time in school history.Â
Team DivingÂ
The second night of Big 12 Championships action ended with the women's team diving event.Â
A combined effort of Joscelyn Farner on 1-meter, Lauren Kimball on 3-meter, and Kate Mitchell on Platform secured 5th place with a final score of 281.90. The team averaged 46.98 points per dive en route to a top five finish in the inaugural running of the event at the Big 12 Championships.Â
