MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - The Iowa State swimming and diving team (3-6, 0-3 Big 12) had several noteworthy performances and personal bests on day three of the Big 12 Championships as they battled against the best in the conference.Â
100 FlyÂ
Carley Caughron continued her tremendous form at this year's Big 12 Championships with a 54.54 time in the 100 fly prelims, which earned her ninth overall in the initial round. The time improved her to the No. 7 spot on the all-time top performers list while also securing her the 18th fastest time in program history.Â
Caughron had an even stronger performance in the finals where she placed 11th overall with a time of 54.18. Caughron's time tied for the ninth-fastest in program history as well as the No. 3 spot on the all-time top performers list.Â
Winter Craig (56.04) and Madi Dohrn (58.27) earned season best times in the preliminary round.Â
400 IMÂ
Sydney Jackson led the Cyclones in the 400 IM prelims with a season-best 4:23.84 time. Jackson finished 13th overall in the session and earned a spot in the consolation final. Mallory Miller finished with a time of 4:25.96 to join Fallon DeWitt (4:25.21) in the bonus final.Â
The finals had similar luck for Jackson as she set a new personal best of 4:22.96 in the finals. The time improvement put her at the No. 10 spot on the all-time top performers list in the 400 IM.Â
Miller (4:25.32) and DeWitt (4:23.63) both put up season-best performances in the bonus finals.Â
200 Free
Brinley Horras set a season-best 1:50.67 finish in the 200 free prelims to secure a lone spot in the finals for the Cyclones. Freshman Lydia McClugage was a bright spot in the event, finishing at 1:57.41 to set a new personal best in her first competitive collegiate swim in the event.Â
In the bonus finals, Horras finished with a new personal best time of 1:50.42, the fastest she has gone in the event since a 1:50.55 finish in the 2021 Big 12 Championships.Â
1-Meter DivingÂ
The Iowa State diving team had three members of their squad finish in the top-20 in 1-meter diving. Lauren Kimball led the Cyclones in 17th place with a score of 265.25, only five points off a top-16 finish. Ally Blumenfeld (260.25) followed close behind in 18th place while Kate Mitchell (260.00) finished in 20th.
400 Medley RelayÂ
Day three of the Big 12 Championships were capped off by the 400 medley relay. A team of Emma Kuhn, Alaina Breitbach, Carley Caughron, and Andie Quirke finished in seventh place at a final time of 3:43.11.Â
