The Series
Iowa State and new Big 12 member BYU have only met once in a neutral site match in Las Vegas. The Cougars took the win that day 5-2, so the Cyclones will look to even the score this weekend as they host BYU.
Iowa State and Texas Tech have played each other 32 times, with Texas Tech leading the all-time series 29-3. However, the Cyclones scored a win the last time these two programs met, taking them down 4-1 in Urbandale last season.
Last Time Out
The Cyclones traveled to Lawrence to take on the No. 57 Kansas Jayhawks last time out. Ashlee Narker and Anna Supapitch Kuearum took home singles wins, but it wasn't enough to power the Cyclones to a win as they fell 5-2. To read more about last weekend, click here.
Player to Watch
Narker is coming off a big win against Kansas' Kyoka Kubo, where the freshman from Saint Ives, Australia, scored a three-set victory, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. Narker is 3-4 in singles play during the dual season, with most of her matches taking place at the No. 3 singles spot.
She pairs with Valeska San Martin in doubles action, where the freshmen are 3-4 at the No. 2 doubles spot. The pair will look to hold down the No. 2 spot as they take on tough in conference competition this weekend.
Cyclone Tennis Quick Hit
Kuearum has won four of her last five matches with wins over No. 58 Vanesa Suarez, No. 85 Daianne Hayashida and Gracie Mulville. Her one loss was a three-set superbreaker against Oklahoma State's No. 9 Anasatasiya Komar. She will have two opportunities to go up against ranked opponents this weekend as the Cougars and the Lady Raiders come to town.
In the Rankings
Iowa State will have multiple opportunities to score some ranked wins this weekend against No. 35 BYU and No. 27 Texas Tech.
BYU has one player in the singles rankings, No. 74 Yujia Huang, with a record of 16-9 and no players in the ITA doubles rankings currently.
Texas Tech also has one player ranked in the ITA singles rankings, No. 85 Cristina Tiglea, the reigning Big 12 Player of the Week with a record of 13-6. The Lady Raiders also have the No. 7 doubles pair in the country, Metka Komac and Avelina Sayfetdinova.
