Iowa State Falls To No. 35 BYU Despite Narker Win

URBANDALE, Iowa – Ashlee Narker grabbed a singles win over BYU's Kendall Kovick but it wasn't enough to power the Cyclones to a win as they fell, 6-1, to No. 35 BYU. Iowa State falls to 2-9 overall and 0-4 in Big 12 action, while BYU improves to 12-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
Narker grabbed her second-straight singles win as she took down Kovick, 7-5, 6-3. She improves her singles record to 4-4 at the No. 3 spot during the spring dual season.
In doubles the Cyclones fielded three doubles pairs for the first time since Feb. 9 against Old Dominion. Gala Arangio and Valeska San Martin took a quick 2-1 lead over Yujia Huang and Kaavya Sawhney before dropping their set, 6-3. After that Narker and a returning Juliette Nask took on Tina Li and Kara Wheatley in a hard-fought set, ultimately dropping the set, 7-5, and allowing BYU to clinch the doubles point.
Nask matched up with Wheatley again in singles at the No. 5 spot for the Cyclones. Despite battling most of the match in her return from injury, she would drop consecutive sets to Wheatley, 6-0, 6-2. This gave BYU a 2-0 lead, two wins away from clinching the match.
Gala Arangio matched up with Emilee Astle at the No. 6 singles spot. Arangio dropped consecutive sets to Astle, 6-1, 6-1, putting the Cougars within one win of clinching the match.
San Martin went up against Kaavya Sawhney at the No. 4 spot. She battled hard in the first set, dropping it, 6-3, and ultimately would come up short at the No. 4 spot falling in the second set, 6-1. This win allowed BYU to take a 4-0 clinching the match.
