AZUSA, California – Iowa State began the Bryan Clay Invite Thursday, with steeplechasers and 10K runners producing ranked program performances while running among elite fields.
Both steeplechasers had big personal record time drops as Gable Sieperda took four seconds off his best with 8:34.24, moving up a spot on the Iowa State performance list passing steeplechase Olympian Hillary Bor's collegiate best set in 2008. Sieperda took 12th overall in the invite steeple, while posting a top 10 time in the nation among NCAA DI runners.
Quinton Orr shaved over seven seconds off his previous PR, timing in at 8:44.49 to debut on the ISU performance list at No. 9. Orr cemented 25th overall and third in the first heat of the invite.
Sanele Masondo raced in the late hours of the night in the fast heat of the 10,000m, running a 28:35.16 to take nearly 20 seconds off his previous best set earlier this season at the Stanford Invite (28:54.52). Masondo placed ninth overall and set the new No. 10 fastest performance in school history. Masondo, along with the top 24 runners, topped the previous facility and meet record time.
Taylor Briggs, Brenna Cohoon and Kaylee Tobaben also raced in the invite 10,000m, as Briggs led the way for the Cyclones in her first-career 10K with 34:53.20. Brenna Cohoon clocked 35:18.71 and Kaylee Tobaben hit a personal best of 35:33.15.
Iowa State continues the Bryan Clay Invite Friday and Saturday while Cyclones also will be competing at the Jim Duncan Invite Friday.
