AMES, Iowa – Iowa State gymnast Josie Bergstrom has earned Academic All-District distinction from the College Sports Communicators (CSC), the organization announced Tuesday.
Bergstrom becomes just the sixth Cyclone gymnast to earn Academic All-District honors, joining teammate Laura Cooke who received the accolade back in 2022.
Josie competed in all 15 meets this year for the Cyclones, competing on both beam and vault. Bergstrom had a strong junior campaign, tallying personal best scores on both events.
Her career-high mark on vault came against Boise State when she notched a 9.925 – the highest individual event score of her career. Her 9.925 was also the highest score on vault by a Cyclone all season. She also collected a pair of 9.9 scores on beam, setting a new personal record.
Bergstrom was a versatile piece for the first-year Cyclone staff, moving up and down both vault and beam lineups for Iowa State. All in all, Josie claimed five event titles in 2024 – all on vault – in the team's 15 competitions.
The 2024 Academic All-District Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
Josie now moves on to the Academic All-America ballot.
