EUGENE, Oregon – Janette Schraft booked her spot in the steeple national final while three Cyclones earned All-America honors.
Schraft began day two punching her ticket to her first-career national final with her finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Schraft shifted between eighth and fifth before setting out on a dominant final lap to take the final automatic qualifying spot in the first heat. Through the 28 barriers and seven water jumps, Schraft clocked 9:51.70.
Rachel Joseph raced next in the 400m, clocking a dominant 51.56. The time put her at 13th overall in semifinals among the elite field, earning the sophomore Second Team All-America. Joseph ends her season becoming the first in Iowa State women's history to earn both indoor and outdoor All-America honors, and picks up the first outdoor honor since 2015.
In the 2024 season, Joseph downed her own indoor 400m school record first set as a freshman, and set the outdoor 400m and 200m record. The Texas native also had silver and bronze medal finishes at Big 12 Championships this season.
Makayla Clark cut .76 seconds off her 800m personal best (2:02.48) set at conference as the sophomore ran a blazing 2:01.72. That time was the 12th-fastest in semifinals, earning Clark Second Team All-America, the first All-America honor of her career. Her time today is less than a second off of the 1990 school record. The time will move Clark onto U.S. Olympic Trials.
After fouling on her first two attempts, Sydney Willits recorded a mark of 20-3 (6.17m) to earn Honorable Mention All-America in the long jump. Willits closes her NCAA season with an indoor national title, two All-America honors, the pentathlon and indoor long jump school record and three All-Big 12 finishes.
All four women are set to compete at U.S. Olympic Trials at Hayward Field June 21-30.
Action continues tomorrow as men look to earn national titles. Events for Iowa State include finals for the discus, steeplechase, 1,500m, 800m and 5,000m beginning at 7:35 p.m. CT.
