Kicking Off
After opening conference play with a win for the first time since 2016 on the road at Kansas, Iowa State returns to the Cyclone Soccer Complex to wrap up non-conference play against the 17th-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes this Sunday.
The Cyclones will look to extend their home winning streak against the Hawkeyes to three in a row, a streak that dates back to 2018. Sunday's match will be the third leg of the 2024-25 Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series - a series that ISU currently leads 5-0 thanks to wins by both the football and volleyball team this past week.
Iowa will also be competing in its non-conference finale, a slate where the Hawkeyes went 4-0-2, with both draws coming on the road. The Hawkeyes are currently riding a five-match shutout streak, having not allowed a goal since August 22 at Western Michigan.
From the Notebook
Leading the Cyclones
Through eight contests, the Cyclones boast a fairly balanced offense. Senior Magdalena Keck leads the team in points (9), holding a trio of goals while also toting a team-high three assists. Fellow senior Morgan Furmaniak holds the team lead in goals with four.
Senior Hannah Shaw and Sopha Thomas each have a pair of scores to round out the multi-goal athletes for ISU. Defenders Ella Zimmerman, Isabella Agrusso, Adelaide Wolfe and Chloe Broughton all also have goals to their names, along with midfielder Seulgi Lee.
Avery Gillahan has been the primary keeper this season in the net for the Cyclones, having played 700 minutes. Gilly tallied her fifth career shutout and second of the season against Kansas on Thursday. She currently has 32 saves and holds a 1.41 goals-against average.
Opponent Outlook
Iowa will look to wrap non-conference play undefeated, as the Hawkeyes played a pretty difficult slate. Iowa tied 12th-ranked Texas in Austin and bested No. 18 Wake Forest. The Hawkeyes also hold a win over Big 12 program Baylor who has just two losses.
Like the Cyclones, Iowa has four players who have scored multiple goals. Berit Parten leads the way with four goals and eight points – both team highs. Meike Ingles has a trio of scores and an assist, while both Sofia Bush and Berkley Binggeli have a pair of goals.
Macy Enneking has been a force for the Hawkeyes in the net, as the senior has played all but two minutes this season and has given up just two scores. She's shut out her last five opponents and holds a 0.29 goals-against average.
Series History
Iowa State and Iowa will meet for the 26th time this weekend, in a series that the Hawkeyes hold the all-time advantage in. Iowa has taken three of the last five, with all three of its wins coming in Iowa City. ISU has won the last two played in Ames. All of the last five matches have ended either 2-1 in ISU's favor or 1-2 in Iowa's favor.
