Cyclone Duo in Top 10 After Two Rounds of Gopher Invitational

INDEPENDENCE, Minn. - Iowa State senior Luke Gutschewski and junior Paul Beauvy are both in the Top 10 after the first two rounds of the Gopher Invitational on Sunday. Gutschewski shot a a 140, while Beauvy is just behind him with a 141 going into the final round. As a team, the Cyclones are in seventh place with a 581 after shooting 292 and 289 in the opening two rounds.
Gutschewski opened his day with a 74 in the opening round before firing an impressive 66 in the second round. It was the 34th round in the 60's in his career. Gutschewski had a pair of birdies in the first round, but tallied seven in the second round.Â
Beauvy was steady on the day with a 70 in the first round and a 71 in the second round, as he was in the Top 10 of the leaderboard for a majority of the day. Beauvy had three birdies in the opening round and birdied the final hole of the second round.
Owen Sawyer and Zach May are tied for 44th after two rounds with a 150. Sawyer shot a 73 in the opening round and a 77 in the second round, while May shot a 75 in both rounds. Sawyer had two birdies in the first round, while May had three in the opening round and four in the second round.Â
Making his collegiate debut, Luke Metcalf is tied for 73rd. Metcalf shot a 75 in the opening round and an 83 in the second round for a 158 going into round three on Monday. He tallied four birdies in the first round and one in the second.Â
Playing as an individual, Dianchao Wu is tied for 57th. He had three birdies in the opening round and birdied two of his final three holes on the day.Â
Iowa leads the team race with a 571, holding a one stroke lead over host Minnesota. Furman's Harris Barth has the individual lead with a 138 over the first two rounds.Â
The third and final round will be played Monday morning at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn.
