Cyclone Open Primer

AMES, Iowa - Iowa State plays host to the Cyclone Open Sunday inside Hilton Coliseum. Action is schedule to begin at 10 a.m.

A contingent of 28 Cyclones will wrestle in the event both attached and unattached. Other teams expected to be represented at the tournament include Cornell, Missouri, Nebraska, UNI, Oklahoma, South Dakota State, Utah Valley, Wisconsin and more.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. All seating is general admission.

Johnny's MatCYd Club
Johnny's MatCYd Club will operate different than normal for the Cyclone Open. Johnny's will be open from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. and there will be no pre-match chalk talk with Coach Dresser. Additionally, coat check will not be available. All guests will still need a Johnny's pass for entry. Johnny's guests must stop at either the NE or SE outer concourse between 11 a.m. – 1 pm. to have their pass scanned and receive their wristband for entry.

Floor seating is not available for the Cyclone Open – all spectator seating is general admission seating.

KEY STORYLINES

Iowa State has won three duals in a row and six of its last seven. The Cyclones are fresh off a 3-0 eastern road trip which saw ISU beat No. 22 West Virginia, Rider and Bucknell.
Several Cyclones debuted at new weights as head coach Kevin Dresser continues to piece together his lineup for the last half of the season. Paniro Johnson (149), Aiden Riggins (165) and MJ Gaitan (174) have all changed weight classes.
Johnson achieved a couple of individual milestones during last week's road trip with his first-career fall and tech fall. Johnson owns dual victories at 149, 157 and 165 pounds this season and has won six-consecutive matches.
Cody Chittum (157) carries a team-best seven-match winning streak into the Cyclone Open. The win streak includes two ranked victories, highlighted by a 10-8 decision over Ohio State's No. 7 Paddy Gallagher.
The Cyclone Open will provide the ISU grapplers an opportunity to get multiple matches against Division I competition. For postseason purposes, a wrestler must meet 2 of the 3 standards (Coach Rank, RPI, Win %) to earn a pre-allocated spot for the conference tournament at the designated weight class. Wrestlers must have 15 matches at their weight class to have a calculated RPI and must have wrestled eight matches to be considered for the first set of coaches ranking on Jan. 23.
