AMES, Iowa – Iowa State capped off a memorable opening day with a 4-0 win against Omaha. The victory followed a 5-2 win against North Texas earlier Friday in what was the first match played at the brand new Iowa State Tennis Facilty.
The Cyclones rolled to a 1-0 lead behind a dominant doubles performance in which they dropped just a single game. Cristina Ramos Sierra and Julia Camblor moved to 2-0 on the day with a 6-0 win over Omaha's Zoe Adkins and Paula Arcarons. Gabriela Felix and Mari Paz Alberto Vilar clinched the point with a 6-1 win against Katelynn Kock and Jacqueline Pearsall.
Valeska San Martin and Suzanie Pretorius's match was unfinished with the duo in front 5-0. The pair didn't drop a single game in two matches Friday.
San Martin made it 2-0 Cyclones with a 6-2, 6-0 win on court six over Pearsall. Her win was closely followed by Alberto Vilar beating Khayli Buckels, 6-1, 6-1.
Felix clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over VanPelt, earning her first dual win as a Cyclone.
Iowa State, which was without Anna Supapitch Kuearum and Ashlee Narker, put out a lineup consisting of five freshmen and a sophomore in San Martin.
Iowa State returns to action Sunday, Feb. 2 when it hosts Minnesota.
