AMES, Iowa – Utah connected on 13 three-pointers and Maye Toure finished with 24 points, including 4-for-6 shooting from long distance, as the Utes defeated Iowa State (10-6, 1-2 Big 12), 75-67, Sunday evening at Hilton Coliseum.
Utah (12-2, 3-0) made 13-of-26 three-pointers, including four in the final five minutes of the game, as it won its seventh-straight game. It was Utah's fifth game this season connecting on at least 13 3-pointers.
Audi Crooks went over 1,000 career points for the Cyclones in the loss, scoring a game-high 29 points on 11-for-20 shooting from the field. The loss snapped Iowa State's 12-game home winning streak.
How It Happened
Utah came out blistering hot from the field, connecting on its first seven field goals, including its first four 3-pointers, as it opened up an 11-point lead at 21-10 at the first media TO of the game.
The Cyclones stayed the course and kept getting the ball to Crooks, who scored the final seven points of the first quarter as ISU closed the deficit to six points at the first quarter break. Both teams shot better than 50 percent from the floor in the opening stanza, with the Cyclones finishing the quarter connecting on 63.6 percent of their shots.
ISU finally drew back to even after threes by Emily Ryan and Sydney Harris made it 29-29, but Utah scored the next five points to go back up five. At the half, the Cyclones trailed 34-33 after late buckets from Addy Brown and Crooks, who scored 15 first-half points.
The Cyclones retook the lead early in the third quarter for the first time since 2-0 and eventually extended it to three points on a bucket from Brown, but Utah responded. The Utes went on an 8-0 run to go up 49-44. Freshman Alli Tanke pulled the Cyclones back within three at 52-49 with a corner three late in the third quarter.
Iowa State and Utah were knotted up at 58-all before a barrage of threes from the visiting team gave it control. Kennady McQueen connected on back-to-back 3-pointers to put the Utes on top 64-58.
After Ryan hit a three for the Cyclones, Toure drained her fourth three of the game and the Cyclones were forced to play from behind the rest of the way.
Top Performers
Crooks led all scorers with 29 points and also had eight rebounds for the Cyclones. Ryan finished with 18 points, averaging 18.5 points this week in games against the Utes and Kansas.
Toure led Utah with 24 points, while McQueen chipped in 15 points on 6-for-7 shooting.
