AMES, Iowa – No. 21 Iowa State (22-7, 12-6 Big 12) fell to Kansas State (17-9, 10-8 Big 12) on in three sets on a snowy Senior Day.
Set scores on the day were 16-25, 15-25, 19-25.
Rachel Van Gorp had her 29th match of the season reaching double-figure digs and extended her match streak to 34 as she totaled 21 digs. It is her third three-set match to total 20 or more, and ninth total match this season.
SET ONE
The visitors took a 10-4 lead before Iowa State took a timeout. KSU took the next point, but three Cyclone kills followed to come within five. At the midway point, Kansas State kept the lead at 15-12 following a Tierney Jackson kill. Nayeli Ti'a put down kill No. 5 to put the score at 18-14, but K-State remained with the advantage reaching 20 at 20-15. KSU went on to take the set 25-16.
SET TWO
Kansas State again took the lead to start , this time jumping out 7-1 as ISU called a timeout. KSU hit 15 first as ISU held nine, and the Cyclones called their second and final timeout down 18-9. The visitors kept control going up in the match 2-0 by a set score of 25-15.
SET THREE
Like the first and second sets, the Wildcats grabbed the advantage. KSU reached 10 as ISU held 6, and continued to outscore ISU as K-State's Shaylee Myers put down three-straight kills to lead 14-8. Kansas State hit 20 at 20-13, and a Cyclone block and Abbi Brenizer ace came next. The Cyclones pulled within four late (23-19) leading to a visitor timeout, but a successful K-State challenge followed to make it match point. K-State took the match the next point on an ISU attack error.
