BOSTON, Mass. – Iowa State began the track and field season fast as Betty Kipkore highlighted the meet breaking the 5,000m school record by six seconds.
Kipkore made her track debut as a Cyclone running a program-record 15:15.30 in the invite 5,000m. The time breaks the previous record of 15:21.66 set by Cyclone legend Betsy Saina in 2013.
Robin Kwemoi Bera raced next in the invite 5,000m and had a fast time himself clocking 13:18.72, now the second-fastest performance in school history. The time is less than four seconds off Wesley Kiptoo's 2022 school record.
Big 12 Cross Country Newcomer of the Year Meshak Kimutai opened his track career with a 13:26.87 running alongside Bera to produce the No. 6-ranked ISU performance. Rodgers Kiplimo had an all-time best of 13:32.64 for the seventh-fastest indoor performance in school history.
Maelle Porcher closed competition for the Cyclones breaking 16 minutes for the first time indoors in the 5,000m. Porcher finished in 15:58.54, now the ninth-fastest indoor performance in school history.
The Cyclones are back in action next week hosting the ISU Holiday Invite Friday, Dec. 12.
