AMES, Iowa – Iowa State freshman gymnast Haylee Hardin has earned her fourth Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honor, the league office announced Tuesday. Hardin's three previous wins came in consecutive weeks from late January to early February.
A Wichita Falls, Texas native, Hardin competed in two events and claimed a pair of top-two finishes this weekend on the road at Iowa. In Iowa City, Hardin took second on floor (9.875) and fourth on vault (9.800).
Hardin's vault score is tied for her fourth-highest on the event this season, while her floor score is also tied for her fourth-highest score on the event this season. Hardin's four Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors are the most in school history.
Hardin surpasses teammate Noelle Adams (2024) and former ISU gymnast Michelle Shealy (2011) as a four-time winner of the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week award. Both Adams and Shealy held the previous single-season record for Newcomer of the Week awards at three.
Iowa State will be back in action this Saturday, February 15, when it heads to Lincoln for a quad-meet at Nebraska. The Ameritas Master Classic features the host-school Cornhuskers as well as Temple and Texas Woman's. Saturday's meet is set to begin at 6:30 pm and will be streamed live on B1G+.
