AMES, Iowa – Iowa State freshmen gymnasts Haylee Hardin and Frederique Sgarbossa received All-Big 12 recognition Wednesday afternoon, as the league announced its first postseason awards.
Hardin was named to the All-Big 12 Floor Team, averaging a 9.985 on the event. The All-Conference apparatus teams were made of six members based on their average scores.
Hardin becomes the 15th Cyclone in program history to be recognized as an All-Conference performer on floor, as it is the 20th time an ISU gymnast has been recognized with the honor and first since Maddie Diab in 2023. Hardin's recognition is also the 95th instance of a Cyclone earning All-Conference honors.
Hardin was also named to the All-Freshman Team along with teammate and fellow newcomer Frederique Sgarbossa. In the league's inaugural All-Freshman Team, Iowa State, along with West Virginia, placed two members on the squad. Hardin, along with WVU's Karleigh DiCello, was a unanimous selection.
Hardin, a four-time Big 12 Newcomer of the Week recipient, has been a star for the Cyclones in her first season in Ames. The rookie claimed seven event titles in her first collegiate season with five coming on floor. She also has the team's highest individual score of the season, a 9.950 on floor.
Sgarbossa, like Hardin, also has multiple event wins in her freshman campaign. The Canadian rookie has claimed three bars titles and has finished as the team's highest scorer on the event in nine of the 12 regular season meets.
The Cyclones will be back in action this Saturday, March 22, when they head to Utah to participate in the Big 12 Championship meet. ISU will compete in the first of two sessions against both BYU and West Virginia. Session one is set to begin at 1 pm CT and will be streamed on ESPN+.
