Cyclones Begin Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa – Multi-event athletes kicked off the 115^th Drake Relays competing in the first five events of the decathlon Wednesday.

Thai Thompson began with a 100m time of 10.81w, with a wind reading just over the legal limit of 2.2 m/s. Thompson placed fifth and scored 903 points, while freshman Chase Lathrop placed sixth with a personal best of 10.83 for 899 points.

In the shot put, Lathrop hit a personal best of 43-2 ¼ (13.16m) and Cooper Spurgeon recorded an outdoor best of 42-11 ½ (13.09), placing fifth and sixth. Thompson took ninth with an outdoor-best 38-7 (11.76m).

Tomorrow, day two for the Cyclones includes decathlon events, the 1,500m, 800m, steeplechase and invite 10,000m. Events begin at 10 a.m.
