STANFORD, Calif. – The Iowa State men's distance squads wrapped up the Stanford Invite Friday. Cyclones put up four top 10 program performances on the day.
Quinton Orr opened his senior season with a five-second steeplechase PR of 8:39.90 to move from No. 9 to No. 7 in Iowa State history. Orr placed eighth in the invitational section.
Robin Kwemoi Bera then took to the track for the invite 5,000m, and went on to clock 13:38.12 to jump up to rank fifth in ISU outdoor history. Bera took ninth place in the elite field and trimmed 13 seconds off his personal best set this indoor season.
Late into the night Rodgers Kiplimo and Ryan Watts raced in the fast section of the 10,000m. Racing among some of the best in the nation, Kiplimo placed fourth shaving 50 seconds off his personal best with 27:52.12, the second-fastest performance in Iowa State history. The time stands only behind Wesley Kiptoo's 2021 school record of 27:37.29.
Running in his first 10K on the track, Watts timed in at 28:22.71 to produce the No. 8-ranked performance in program history. The redshirt sophomore placed 25th.
In section 3 of the 10,000m, Allen Bonnesen kicked off action earlier in the day with a time of 29:55.07 in his track debut as a Cyclone. Isaac Rivera also made his Iowa State track debut, finishing 18th in section 4 of the 5,000m clocking 14:24.34.
Iowa State next heads to College Station, the host of NCAA West Prelims, for the 44 Farms Team Invite April 11-12 and Des Moines for the Jim Duncan Invite on April 11.
