EUGENE, Ore. – Rodgers Kiplimo and Joash Ruto had big showings for Iowa State as the men kicked off NCAA Championships, with Kiplimo running to a podium finish in the 10,000m and Ruto cementing his place in the steeplechase final.
Kiplimo ran towards the back of the pack and as the final mile drew close began to make his way up. The junior had a final 400m of 55.57 as he put himself into scoring position and then some, finishing fourth in 29:10.89. He is the ninth First Team All-American in the Iowa State 10K history, while he earns his second-career All-America honor and first on the track.
Joash Ruto made the second heat of 3,000m steeplechase semis a fast one as he led the pack and went on to win with the fastest time of 8:22.94, downing his school record of 8:25.42. Ruto advances to the national final held on Friday at 7:24 p.m. CT.
Dugion Blackman took 18th in the 800m clocking 1:48.15. He becomes the 18th man to earn All-America honors in the outdoor 800m and totals the 28th honor in school history, Blackman is now a two-time All-American after taking 10th in 2023 at Hampton University.
Cam Jones ends a historic Iowa State career with his sixth All-America honor. Jones earned Honorable mentions honors with an 18th place finish of 61-1 1/4 (18.62m). He is the third man in program history to earn multiple honors in the outdoor shot put and continues to be the second to have five or more total honors.
Quinton Orr capped his season with a 20th place finish of 8:44.02 in the steeplechase to earn Honorable Mention All-America. Orr is the fifth man in Iowa State history to earn All-America honors in the event and totals the 13th total honor.
Mikey McClain clocked 20.94 to finish 21st in the nation in the 200m. The sophomore ends his incredible season as the outdoor 200m school record holder, Big 12 runner up and now an All-American with Honorable Mention honors.
The women kick off competition tomorrow as Rachel Joseph competes in 400m semis (7:41 p.m. CT), Makayla Clark in the 800m (7:58 p.m.) while the 4x400m relay will run at 9:36 p.m. Events will be televised on ESPN.
