Sawyer, Iowa State Finish in Third at the N.I.T.

TUCSON, Ariz. - Owen Sawyer carded a career-best 54-hole score of 205 to secure the best finish of his career, placing third at the N.I.T. Sawyer tied the lowest round of his career in the final round with a 66 (-6), tallying six birdies and zero bogeys in the round. Three Cyclones, including Sawyer, scored a 66 or better in the final round to help cruise to a third place finish as a team (284-285-266=835, -29). Iowa State's third round score of 266 (-22) was the lowest round in the tournament, and is also the second-best round in school history. The team's 54-hole score of 835 is the sixth-lowest in program history.

Sawyer led the charge for the Cyclones, finishing in third place at -11, his tenth Top-10 finish. The junior from Cedar Falls, Iowa shot the third-lowest score on Par 4's (-4) in the field to go along with 13 birdies and an eagle. The winner of last year's event, Paul Beauvy tied for 8th (-8) this go around. Beauvy carded a 66 in the final round, the lowest score of his season. The senior totaled 13 birdies these past two days, along with an eagle in the final round, the ninth in his career.

Jackson McCommon tied for 14th (-6), finishing three-under par in the second and third rounds. McCommon tied the lowest 54-hole score of his career (210), and tallied 13 birdies and his fifth career eagle in the third round. Zach May tied the lowest round in the tournament with a 65 (-7) in the final round. May's final round ties the tenth-lowest round in school history, and helped propel him to a Top-25 finish (-4). Along with McCommon, May shot -8 on Par 5's, the third-lowest in the field, and also carded 12 birdies and an eagle in the final round, his eighth of his career. Dianchao Wu finished in 67th, tallying eight birdies in the tournament.

Iowa State as a team produced the second-most eagles (4) and fourth-most birdies (59) over three rounds, as well as shooting -32 on Par 5's, third-best in the field.

#5 Texas narrowly defeated host #30 Arizona by one stroke, finishing 41-under par. Arizona's #42 Filip Jakubcik retained his lead from yesterday, winning the individual race at -14.

Up next, the Cyclones will travel to La Quinta, Calif. for the Prestige at PGA West starting on Monday, Feb. 16th.
