IRVING, Texas - Iowa State freshman Emma Zheng has been named the Big 12 Women's Golfer of the Month for the month of September, the league announced on Thursday. Zheng finished the month with a 68.33 scoring average, and helped lead the Cyclonitas to two team victories to start the season, including an individual medalist honors of her own.
Competing in her first career tournament, Zheng became the first freshman in ISU history to win a season opener. The Auckland, New Zealand native finished the Badger Invitational at -7, shooting even or under-par in all three of her rounds (72-69-68=209) as the Cyclonitas picked up their first team win of the season.
Zheng followed her first tournament victory with a tie for second (68-67-66=201, -9) at the Schooner Fall Classic, just one stroke back from sharing medalist honors with teammate Alexandra Vidal. The freshman's 201 is tied for the fourth-lowest 54-hole score in program history. Zheng has recorded five-straight rounds in the 60's dating back to the Badger Invitational, which includes a career-best 66 in the final round of the SFC. Zheng and three other Cyclones finished in the Top 10 to help run away with the team title, their second-straight team victory to open the season and sixth since the start of 2026, the most in a calendar year in program history.
The Cyclonitas return to action Oct. 5-6 at the Windy City Classic.
