Cyclones Fall To No. 23 Texas Tech, 4-2

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (2-6, 0-2 Big 12) fought hard but fell to No. 23 Texas Tech (11-3, 2-0 Big 12) inside the Iowa State Tennis Facility Sunday afternoon.

In doubles, the Cyclones jumped out to a lead on all three courts, getting ahead 5-3 on 1, 5-4 on 2 and 5-2 on 3. But Ashlee Narker and Valeska San Martin Ramirez were the only ones able to close it out, getting the 6-2 victory on 3, while the Red Raiders completed comebacks on 1 and 2 to clinch the doubles point.

In singles, the Cyclones picked up victories from Stanislava Shulzhenko and Suzanie Pretorius on Courts 4 and 5. Shulzhenko beat Polina Sleptsova, 6-1, 6-2, while Pretorius downed Ella Brownback, 6-2, 6-2. The Red Raiders took two quick wins on Courts 3 and 6, however, then clinched the match with a three-set victory on Court 1.

The Cyclones will be back in action at Kansas on Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m.
