AZUSA, Calif. – The Cyclones continued action at the Bryan Clay Invite and Mt. SAC Relays Friday, with Maelle Porcher highlighting the day with a fast time in the 5,000m.
Porcher raced under the lights and ran to an all-time 5,000m best running in the fast invite section. Porcher clocked 15:32.24 to improve her standing at No. 3 in ISU history, and finished as the 10th-fastest collegian at Bryan Clay.
The Cyclones began day two of distance events at Bryan Clay with sections of the 800m, with two women finishing with personal bests in the invite section. First-year Cyclone Emma Vorpagel went 2:06.85, less than a second off the ISU top 10, while Camryn Hubbard went 2:08.94. Kinsey Christianson had her outdoor opener of 2:11.23.
Makayla Clark raced in the elite 800m, posting a season opener of 2:06.56. For the men, Sam Austin competed in the elite 800m and made his Cyclone debut of 1:48.51.
Three men then ran in the invite 800m, all coming away with PRs. Freshman Jailan Sohna (1:48.17) and sophomore Jacoby Harmon (1:48.57) both went sub-1:49 for the first time to finish 14th and 24th out of over 100 runners. Freshman Tommy Tyynismaa clocked 1:51.05, trimming over a second off his season best on his way to his new all-time best.
At the Mt. SAC Relays, Hanson King put up a big mark in the shot put. King, out of flight one, advanced to the final and on his sixth and final attempt hit 56-7 1/2 (17.26m) to move up the leaderboard from seventh to finish fourth. The mark is an all-time best and just over two feet off the ISU top 10.
Aidan Jacobsen lowered his 400m hurdles season best by seven tenths of a second to clock a PR of 52.21 and take third.
Rachel Joseph raced a 200m in a headwind of -2.0 m/s and took third with 23.75.
Tomorrow is the final day of the Bryan Clay Invite and Mt. SAC Relays. Events for ISU begin at 11 a.m. with the collegiate women's hammer at Mt. SAC.
