Leading Off
Entering its final week of the regular season, ISU will play three midweek contests, split between St. Thomas and Drake. The Cyclones will look to push toward eclipsing the 30 regular-season win mark with a productive early week.
Iowa State enters the midweek contests coming off a 1-2 series loss at Kansas over the weekend. After splitting a series-opening doubleheader, the Cyclones fell in the rubber match, 4-2, in eight innings.
St. Thomas has claimed victory in eight of its last ten contests, including wins over both Omaha and Wisconsin – teams that bested ISU earlier in the season.
Drake, meanwhile, is 5-5 in its last ten outings, which featured splitting a doubleheader against UNI. The Bulldogs and Cyclones will meet for the second time this season, as ISU is 4-1 against in-state teams this season.
Scouting the Cyclones
Iowa State's offense is led by senior standout Reagan Bartholomew, who leads the team in batting average (.414), runs (49), hits (63), homers (13) and walks (28). Bartholomew is eighth in the Big 12 in batting average and sixth in hits.
Tatum Johnson has the second-most hits (60) and runs scored (45) while leading the team in RBI with 46. Sophomore Jessie Clemons is third nationally in doubles (20) as she paces an ISU team that is fifth nationally in two-baggers. Johnson (11), as well as Kadence Shepherd (12), are the only Cyclones outside of Bartholomew with double-figure homers.
In the circle, four Cyclones have seen the majority of action. Lauren Schurman leads the way with a team-low ERA of 4.32. Schurman has hurled 131.1 innings, a team-high, and owns 72 punchouts, also a team-high. Freshman Liv Palumbo (6-3), senior Jaiden Ralston (3-6), and Michigan State transfer Ava Mullen (4-5) round out the staff for ISU.
The Cyclones own a .322 batting average and have produced 328 runs on 423 hits. The team has 165 extra-base hits with 303 RBI and has drawn 196 walks. ISU holds a collective 5.15 ERA and fields the ball at a .971 clip.
