CARLSBAD, Calif. – The Iowa State Women's Golf team put together one of the best postseason rounds in program history on Friday, as the Cyclonitas are in fourth place after the opening day of the 2026 NCAA Championships. Entering as the No. 13 seed in the field, Iowa State shot a 284, the fourth-best NCAA round and best championship round in program history.
The Cyclones were led by their two seniors in the opening round, as Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn and Pammy Chookaew had the top two scores for Iowa State. Chul-Ak-Sorn was one-over through three holes, but had four birdies in her final 13 holes to finish with a three-under 69. She is tied for third in the individual race, while it was the fifth-best NCAA round in program history. Chookaew was one-under on her first nine and did the same on the second, as she tallied four birdies on the day. She had a birdie on two of her final five holes, as she is tied for 13th with a 70.
Iowa State's senior duo both played their 16th round of NCAA competition, tied for the most in program history. They each put together their fourth career rounds of 71 or better at an NCAA competition, tied for the second-most in program history.
Sophomore Alexandra Vidal had a birdie on two of her final four holes, as she shot an even par 72. She is tied for 41st overall. She went over 100 birdies on the season, becoming the fourth Cyclone this year to hit the mark.
Isabella Yan rounded out the scoring for Iowa State, as she was one-over at 73. Yan had a par on her final 12 holes of the day. Nichakorn Pinprayoon rounded out the Iowa State lineup, as she shot a seven-over 79. She is tied for 143rd.
No. 2 USC (281/-7), No. 1 Stanford (282/-6) and No. 21 Oklahoma State (283/-5) are just in front of the Cyclones after the first round. Â Stanford's Megha Ganne and Oklahoma State's Ellie Buschnell have the individual lead after shooting a 68 (-4) in the opening round. Chul-Ak-Sorn is among 11 players that shot a 69 (-3) in the first round to be tied for third.
